While everyone may be on school holidays in South Africa at Bush Radio it is always a good time to brush up or learn new skills.

In the first week of the holidays Bush Radio hosted the UNESCO Empowering Local Radio with ICTs for Bush Radio and Radio Atlantis.

The second week saw the young people who are part of the Children’s Radio Education Workshop (CREW) get further practical training.

Tomorrow, Saturday the 6th April 2013 sees the relaunch of the on-air part of Bush Radio’s Children’s Radio Education Workshop (CREW) project which has been running since 1996.

For the past week at the Bush Radio studios a group of young people drawn from various parts of Cape Town have been receiving introductory radio training and workshopping various topics for the programmes.

The CREW on-air programmes (Tots, Kids and Teens) are produced and hosted by the young people themselves – they are responsible for generating the content. It will be broadcast on 89.5FM as well as online.

Please show your support by calling into the studio on 021 448 6266 or sending an sms to 32158 or via Mxit (go to Tradepost > Entertainment > Radio > Bush Radio.)

The tots start at 9am, kids at 10am and the teens at 11am.

The CREW 2013 project is made possible with the support of FES Media.

A visit to the Cape Town Science Centre yesterday for Bush Radio’s weekly Staff Development turned out to be a fun playground for the staff.

We had the opportunity to explore amazing displays like the biggest cell phone (video) which made it into the World Guinness Book of Records, Mindball, the game where you control a ball with your brain waves and Sive Msolo became a guinea pig when he went for a spin on the Human Gyroscope (video) to experience weightlessness.

It’s a great opportunity to take your whole family for a day of exploring science.

05/08/2011

Tune into Bush Radio 89.5FM this Saturday the 6th of August 2011 at 6pm when we launch a new programme on Africa’s pioneering community radio station.

We are proud to launch TheDank!sh radio show.

So who are they?

Young, fresh and opinionated,  cutting edge mix of radio journalists, street artists, TV camera people and other industry professionals. This dynamic and well travelled team have collaborated with fresh young people from around the world who aim to always give you TheDank!sh

A few dankish examples of what they have in store for you are music reviews by Hip-hop producer Arsenic (music with a maniac). We’ll also be tracking the latest in street style developments from dank rides to fashion and all the dankish in between.

These are just a few examples of what’s to come.

Here’s what the group has to say about why they are doing what they do:

“Are you bored of all the same old mediocre bollocks you find on the rest of the internet (and now radio)? Well so are we! We aim to inform, challenge, engage and inspire all out there to be thinkers, encouraging your opinions and participation in our quest to find the dankist things out there!”

So tune into 89.5 FM or online via www.bushradio.co.za on Saturday, 6 August at 6pm.
