Since before 1993, Bush Radio has been producing quality media practioners. It is often said, that it is hard to go to any broadcasting facility in South Africa without running into someone who has come via Bush Radio.

Bush Radio 89.5fm is opening applications for internship positions for those interested in getting into media. No prior formal qualification is required.

Please read the requirements below carefully – should the information be incomplete or incorrect, your application will not be considered.

Record sound, conduct interviews, compile bulletins, read bulletins, take pictures, record video, cover events, test your skills LIVE to a listening and online audience of over 375 000 people, generate interview ideas, liaise with guests, assist presenter, research, package and present, liaise with listeners regarding programme, updating blogs/websites, present as needed / capable, participate in outside broadcasts or events, build your career and profile?

Requirements:

  1. No formal qualifications are required but the candidates must be computer literate and understand, write and read English and one other language (Afrikaans or Xhosa)
  2. You will be required full-time (ie Monday – Friday) or shifts (06h00 – 14h00 and 10h00 –18h00 –including weekend and public holiday shifts depending on the area you are placed.
  3. You must be available to start immediately.
  4. You will not receive payment! This is a volunteer internship at Africa’s leading community radio station. Transport allowance of R500 per month for 3 months (probation), increased to R 1000 thereafter, non-negotiable for 9 months.
  5. Shortlisted candidates will be put through a combination written test (for computer skills, language, general knowledge) and a voice test.

Receptionist position available at Bush Radio 89.5 FM

Bush Radio 89.5FM, a community radio station based in Salt River, is looking for a front-line receptionist.

The ideal candidate should have at least two years’ experience as a front-line receptionist, be presentable with a good telephone manner, and have basic administration skills. Must be fluent in two of the Cape languages and have a solid working knowledge of MS Office (especially Word, Excel and Outlook).

Duties include: – Answering a busy 10-line switchboard – Dealing with all incoming and outgoing correspondence – Dealing with listener queries and complaints – Petty cash – Other basic admin duties.

Hours: 08h00 – 16h00 – Monday to Friday

Salary: R 4000 (not negotiable)

Position: Senior Administrative Assistant

Salary ranges from R60,000 – R84,000 per year depending on experience.

Skills required:
• Computer literacy (Word, Excel, Turbocash/Pastel and internet / email) • Excellent reading and writing skills in English and Afrikaans or Xhosa • Strong interpersonal and communication skills • Strong administrative and financial skills

Experience required:
• 3 years prior experience in administration and finance (NGO or commercial environment) • Prior experience on SARS e-filing

Personality attributes:
• Ability to work under pressurised conditions • Ability to adhere to deadlines • Ability to work within a team

Key Performance Areas:

Administration:
– Stationery purchase and distribution
– Do filing and updating of files
– Ensure fixing of equipment
– Record keeping
– Liaise with stakeholders, clients and funders
– Report writing

Finances:
– Petty cash
– Prepare financial books to trial balance (using Turbocash/Pastel)
– Draft financial reports for the Station Manager
– Bank reconciliation
– Record keeping
– Account payments and debt collections
– Prepare and monitor budgets
– Write proposals and reports to funders
– Do all statutory returns, such as VAT, PAYE, SDL, and UIF

Personnel:
– Keep and update all personnel records
– Do work-schedules and make sure staff is on duty
– Deal with all statutory requirements

Other:
– Deal with advertising queries
– Receive advertising schedules and reconcile with payments
– Check advertising schedules and make sure that all material is at Bush Radio

Get on-air experience with Everyday People

Bush Radio is looking for vibrant and enthusiastic women who have a passion for radio to be co-hosts on Everyday People (weekdays, 4 to 7pm)

Requirements:

* free to volunteer 3pm – 7pm daily (Mon-Fri)
* generate interviews and new show ideas
* compiling daily features
* organise daily interviews
* setting up questions for each interview
* liaise with guest/s and host of the show
* taking photos of guest/interviews/events
* promote the show via Facebook/Twitter/etc
* blog
* work closely with the show host
* co-hosting & interviewing
* fluent in English and Xhosa/Afrikaans

Please include your CV (with 2 contactable references) and a motivational letter of no longer than 200 words explaining why you feel you are suitable as a co-host.
