Getting down with the Villagers
24/10/2011On Sunday, October 23, 2011 we had an outside broadcast at the Garden Village Primary School. The idea behind the OB was to promote the upcoming Village Day when Garden Village celebrates its 89th birthday. The weather was sunny, allowing the Villagers to set up their braai stands and tables to enjoy themselves.
The residents of Garden Village were kept entertained by Bush Radio’s Three Musketeers; Roger Lewis (Sensual Sundays 12pm-2pm), Dr Victor (Jazz on Bush 2pm-4pm) and Calvin Peters (Flashback 4pm-6pm).
Rene Hendricks, Marketing Director of Garden Village Residents Association said, “Today is a count down for the upcoming event, as we will be celebrating 89years of Garden Village’s existence. This event is definitely a very good sign that if people were able to come to this one, then the actual event will definitely be a success.”
Mrs October, Principal at Garden Village Primary School said “Lot of things in the community revolve around the school and there is no recreation and development. Therefore, the school has all the facilities the community needs”.
The people of Garden Village looked like one big happy family, as everyone gathered around with their families and greeted each other with warm smiles.
Maureen Robertson, a resident at Garden Village said, “This is a special day for me, I have never heard of Bush Radio before and I knew nothing about it; but here I am today at my old age enjoying my time with Bush Radio, meeting you people. This is really the best thing that has happened to me, thank you Bush Radio.”
Gabiba Dames, an elderly resident at Garden Village said, “It’s the first time I see this happen, and it’s evident before my eyes that it has brought everyone together; it is a good thing to keep the interaction between the young and old. This should be done more often.”

Why? Because we have to #16days
03/12/2010The first 7 days of our outside broadcast marathon for 16 Day of Activism is complete but it wasn’t without hitches. First our only outside broadcast laptop crashed – a day before our campaign started – but thanks to CapeTown Tweeple who retweeted our call for help, Professor Johannes Cronje from CPUT donated his laptop.
Then one of our venues in Hanover Park had no functioning telephone line but the Auntie across the road stepped in and let us use her telephone line!
Unfortunately, our appeals and proposals to national, local government and corporates for support have gone unheeded.
