The broadcast consisted of a “Taste of Cape Town with Wayne McKay, Lerato Mashile and Mitchum George followed by the WRHU team interviewing a Bush Radio panel consisting of:

• Lumko Mtimde – Special Advisor in the Minister in the Presidency and a founding member of Bush Radio
• Brenda Leonard – Managing Director of Bush Radio
• Juanita Williams – Managing Editor of AllAfrica – former Bush Radio news editor
• Trevor Davids – a media specialist, entrepreneur and Bush Radio volunteer engaged in developing radio programmes
• Adrian Louw – Bush Radio Programme Integrator and media trainer

This year in the lead up to World Radio Day, Bush Radio was invited to participate in a broadcast with WRHU Radio Hofstra University 88.7 FM in the United States as part of their global celebration.

Join us this Friday, 12 February at 3pm as we take the Cape Flats to New York and beyond.

Wayne McKay, Lerato Mashile and Mitchum George will host a “Taste of Cape Town” and this will be followed by the WRHU team interviewing Bush Radio Alumni and discussing the power of community media, its role in Africa, challenges, innovative radio programming, training and the impact of the station in Africa and globally.

The panel to be interviewed will consist of:

• Lumko Mtimde – Special Advisor in the Minister in the Presidency and a founding member of Bush Radio
• Brenda Leonard – Managing Director of Bush Radio
• Juanita Williams – Managing Editor of AllAfrica – former Bush Radio news editor

*Proclaimed in 2011 by the Member States of UNESCO, and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012 as an International Day, February 13 became World Radio Day (WRD). This year WRD is divided into three subthemes:

• Evolution – The world changes, radio evolves.
• Innovation – The world changes, radio adapts and innovate.
• Connection – The world changes, radio connects.

A tale of two cities

The state of South Africa cities currently sits on a crossroad of possible futures, articulated in urban design, architecture, design, the arts and social studies. The dichotomies of formal and informal structures circulate and merge with boundaries that extend beyond the physical borders of supposedly defined urban spaces.

In a night of discussion and exhibition dsgnTête-à-Tête, the flagship discussion platform of MoDILA and broadcast in partnership with Bush Radio 89.5FM every Thursday at 2:30 pm, hosts A Tale of [2+1] Cities, where renowned international experts in the fields of architecture and urban studies will debate with the public on their perspectives of local and global future cities.

All designers and creatives are welcome!

The discussion will be followed by an electronic exhibit of works from the Graduate School of Architecture Planning and Preservation, Columbia University, New York entitled Design intelligence Africa and from the University of Cape Town Architecture @ UCT – issues and themes at the Cape Institute for Architecture.
