A few children from Fisantekraal who are part of a project called Peace and Love International came to the Bush Radio studios and were interviewed by Bassie on Backchat. We asked them to perform a song for us.

Bringing you the Ish…TheDank!sh

05/08/2011

Tune into Bush Radio 89.5FM this Saturday the 6th of August 2011 at 6pm when we launch a new programme on Africa’s pioneering community radio station.

We are proud to launch TheDank!sh radio show.

So who are they?

Young, fresh and opinionated,  cutting edge mix of radio journalists, street artists, TV camera people and other industry professionals. This dynamic and well travelled team have collaborated with fresh young people from around the world who aim to always give you TheDank!sh

A few dankish examples of what they have in store for you are music reviews by Hip-hop producer Arsenic (music with a maniac). We’ll also be tracking the latest in street style developments from dank rides to fashion and all the dankish in between.

These are just a few examples of what’s to come.

Here’s what the group has to say about why they are doing what they do:

“Are you bored of all the same old mediocre bollocks you find on the rest of the internet (and now radio)? Well so are we! We aim to inform, challenge, engage and inspire all out there to be thinkers, encouraging your opinions and participation in our quest to find the dankist things out there!”

So tune into 89.5 FM or online via www.bushradio.co.za on Saturday, 6 August at 6pm.

Bush Radio staff and interns devoted their 67 minutes of work for Mandela Day to St Anne’s Homes on Monday the 18th July 2011. The team spent the morning face painting, story-telling and playing. The children also received soup (kindly donated by Cyrildene Fisher) and party packets at the end of the morning.

The team enjoyed themselves, and have signed on to to arrange even more of these activities in future.

Chad Saaiman shot

Chad Saaiman on the Breakfast Show in February 2011

We learnt with great shock early this morning that musician Chad Saaiman, was shot in an alleged hijacking last night in Johannesburg.

Chad’s brother Lee, confirmed the shooting in an interview with the Breakfast Team this morning. (See Bushradionews)

Our thoughts are with Chad and his family as we wish him a speedy recovery.

Chad assisted Bush Radio with various events and projects.

Bush and the Great Deluge

10/03/2011

When the Breakfast Team and Logistics team leader Victor J came to the office on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, he knew that the day would live up to its “Mal Wednesday” name.

During the night a water fitting which had been replaced by our landlord a few months ago burst. The resulting flood left the admin office, toilets and part of the music library covered in water.

Victor J and Dennis Kofi checking the damage in the admin office

Singer Auriol Hays was waiting to co-host the Breakfast Show with Victor, while the team started mopping up and assessing the damage to the building and equipment. Unfortunately, due to the amount of water, the station may take a while to dry out and be fully functional (If you can help click here).

Amanda Kili surveys some of the damage

The trainees have decided that playing any music by Wet, Wet, Wet might be a bad idea right now.

A Bush-e moment

Faces for Radio: E-TV's Lester Kiewit (left) and Bush Radio's Victor J (right)

Bush Radio 89.5 FM’s Breakfast Team was joined by ETV‘s Lester Kiewit this morning to co-host the morning drive time show with Victor J.

We found out that the television journalist enjoys listening to the Breakfast Show (via Twitter) and we felt it was only right that he had an opportunity to join the craziness in the studio.

Dreadlock brothers: Lester Kiewit looks on while Chad Saaiman explains his hairstyle

As if that wasn’t enough excitement for Victor J, Chad Saaiman joined them in the studio.

They discussed Saaiman’s new CD The Flight but – because the guest presenter and musician share a hairdresser – the conversation turned to their signature dreadlocks! And the speed at which Bush Radio gets up video, audio and pictures.
