Bush Radio, Africa’s oldest community radio station project is in the process of renewing its broadcast and frequency spectrum license.
As part of this process we would like all our listeners, supporters, community organisations and clients to sign a petition to show their support for the application.
Bush Radio Managing Director, Brenda Leonard giving Cornerstone Institute CEO, Noel Daniels some in studio tips and tricks while Mkhuseli Veto looks on
The first is the Cornerstone Critical Dialogues and the second is Community Champions.
Cornerstone Critical Dialogues which starts at 7pm, will feature some of South Africa’s most influential thinkers, activists, performing artists and business people to debate the topics that matter most for society. Journalist Ryan Fortune will lead this collaborative project – a live radio show and podcast on Bush Radio and other platforms – is a direct offshoot (and next logical evolution) of the popular Cornerstone Critical Dialogues series.
Community Champions at 9pm is where Noel Daniels, CEO of the Cornerstone Institute, will be chatting with one community champion, social or cultural activist, who may not always get the attention they deserve in the mainstream media. Noel will take us on a journey, exploring the world of leaders of non-profit organisations, social entrepreneurs, ground breakers and doers who are making a difference in their communities. They all have one thing in common – they are the people who play it forward.
A Bush Radio Talk Show (with music produced by South Africans)
Trevor Davids and Geoff Mamputa will run a new limited edition radio talk show on Bush Radio especially produced for the 16-Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence. The programme creates a space for conversations that would promote healing and behavioral change among men.
While both men and women can be victims of violence, violence against women, often at the hands of men, is a unique category of violence that is embedded in the historical and current unequal balance of power between men and women.
Violence against women is the crucial element that reinforces men’s power and control over women throughout . On some level, most of us participate in the culture that supports and encourages violence against women and girls, sometimes in small ways (like telling our friends to “man up” when they have to do something difficult)
Speak Up seeks to be a space where men feel drawn in, understood and at home as well as inspired to be their best selves and take action.
Many men are afraid of speaking up because they are afraid of being marginalised and of being excluded from groups of men.
Speaking up can come with costs and can jeopardize men’s social status and position, which causes many men to abandon their values and keep quiet rather than speak up and take action.
Speak Up will find and stand with men who want to make a difference and Speak Up will strive to serve by providing tools and skills to take action.
1st Broadcast: Wed 25 November @ 7pm
2nd Broadcast: Wed 2 December @ 7pm
Final Broadcast: Wed 9 December @ 7pm

A popular saying at Bush Radio is that “Democracy is not a spectator sport”. For our democracy to work we have to be active citizens and engage, debate and express our views on all laws – especially the ones being drafted.
The City of Cape Town has called for comment on the City’s Streets, Public Places and the Prevention of Noise Nuisances Amendment By-law.
The By-law was first promulgated in 2007 and relates to the management of streets, public places, noise nuisances and other related matters on all properties in Cape Town.
Our proposed amendment aims to add and streamline procedural aspects of the By-law that support and enable necessary law enforcement, including:
effectively resolving complaints and situations relating to noise, and
reducing risk to the City, individuals and land owners by ensuring that these processes/actions are supported by legislation.
In terms of section 17 of the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act, Act 32 of 2000, you can submit comments to the municipality.
The National Community Radio Forum issued a press statement after their meeting with the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) yesterday.
Again Bush Radio is very concerned about these developments and we believe that a closure of one station is worrying. We call upon all parties involved to look for an amicable solution for the continued survival and growth of the community radio sector.
We also encourage communities, individuals, organisations and businesses to support their community radio stations.
Divided into 30 minute segments the 3 hour show now picks up the pace and tightly packs in the information to educate all who use our roads while keeping you entertained with anecdotes, quips and insights into what makes biking a popular pastime in the Mother City and beyond.
Guests from various parts of our motorcycling world – from motorcycle clubs to individual adventurers, activists and deserving charities and causes all join us to bring you their very special stories.
We get to the nuts and bolts of technical issues, discuss the day to day issues that bug you and we unpack the topics of relevance to road users and bikers in particular.
Music is provided by several resident DJs and it simply rocks!
Professional Road Safety advice and information coupled with traffic law insights and information rounded off with Bike/Rider safety issues around common errors when riding and defensive riding/driving practice all seek to keep us all alive and having fun.
