At the final Bush Radio Open Forum meeting for 2017 on the 5th December the annual Zane Ibrahim Volunteer of the Year award was presented to Shiraz “Cazzman” Ramjee who also hosts Retro Rewind.

The Zane Ibrahim Award recognises volunteer service that ensures the voices and interests of the community represented on-air and through the various social upliftment projects of the station and is named after the late Managing Director, Zane Ibrahim.

Western Cape Sport School celebrating 10 years

westerncapesportschool 2017The Western Cape Sport School will be hosting a carnival to celebrate 10 years of producing exceptional sportswomen and men on the 24th and 25th November 2017.

The event will feature Wayne McKay as the MC, Loukmaan Adams, YoungstaCPT, SK Baleni, Karin Kortje, Zami Mdingi, 4REAL, The Rockets, Nur Abrahams, Waseef Piekaan, Jazzimandi, Kinders VD Ses, Jazz Yard Academy and more.

There will be carnival rides, food stalls and many activities for children and adults alike.

Bush Radio will also be broadcasting from the event on both days.

Date: Friday 24 November (from 4pm) and Saturday 25 November (from 8am)

Venue: WC Sport School Campus also known as “BOK COLLEGE”. Nooiensfontein Rd, Kuilsriver

Tonight at 8pm on Connected 2 Jazz on Bush Radio 89.5FM we celebrate another centenary: that of innovative trumpeter and bandleader Dizzy Gillespie, who, with Monk, Charlie Parker and a few others, was responsible for introducing bebop into jazz.

John Birks Gillespie was born on 24 October 1917.

Curious, adventurous, always looking for a story, willing to hunt down a source, energetic?

Able to speak, write and read in English & Afrikaans/Xhosa, willing to explore new frontiers in media? From the Cape Flats? Willing to learn and work hard?

Would you like to:

Record sound, conduct interviews, compile bulletins, read bulletins, take pictures, record video, cover events, test your skills LIVE to a listening and online audience of over 375 000 people, build your career and profile?

If your answer to the above is yes, then a volunteer news trainee position in the Bush Radio newsroom is for you. (Download application form)

You will be required full-time and to work shifts (06h00 – 14h00 and 10h00-18h00 -including weekend and public holiday shifts.)

You will not receive payment! This is a volunteer internship at Africa’s leading community radio station. Transport allowance of R 1000 only – non negotiable
