Rachel and Siya Kolisi – 3 January 2023

While Nigel Vermaas (Connected 2 Jazz, Arts Update etc) was on holiday in the Eastern Cape, he happened to meet two pretty famous South Africans.

Nigel grabbed the chance to interview Rachel & Siya Kolisi outside Pearston in the Eastern Cape recently.

Siya and Rachel talk about their move to France and the work of the Kolisi Foundation.

Siya Kolisi is a professional rugby player and the current South African national captain.

Rachel and Siya formed the Kolisi Foundation in 2020.

Spinnerkop 24 June 2022

The guys of SPINNERKOP (spin‧ne‧kop) – Weaving the Webs of Social Change came by Bush Radio to gift the station a rug.

Spinnerkop based in Kensington are focused on creating employment, marketing and networking opportunities for at risk communities, particularly women of colour who are survivors of or vulnerable to being exposed to gender based violence.

Lucinda Classen, Haafezah Awaldien and co-founder Zahier Davids presented the rug with the Bush Radio to staff and trainees at the station.

I HEAR YOU NGO 12th April 2022: On the 28h January 2022, President Cyril Ramaphosa approved amendments to the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Bill, the Criminal and Related Matters Amendment Bill and the Domestic Violence Amendment Bill. While this is a step in the right direction with the fight against GBV, we cannot deny that according to the Mail & Guardian (4 Dec 2020), 51% of South African women admitted to having experienced GBV with 76% of men admitting they’ve perpetrated GBV. With April being recognized as sexual assault awareness, we are joined by I hear you which is a non-profit organization based on the facilitation of the prevention of gender based violence.

NASTY C 20th May 2022:  From Price City to Zulu man with some power, we have watched Nasty C grow from being the coolest kid in Africa to being the award winning internationally recognized zulu man with global power. Now after trailblazing the globe with achievements longer than my arm, Nasty C is back in the Mother City to show the love with his Ivyson Army tour which kicked off last week in Durban showing us that the sky isn’t the limit when there are footprints on the moon.
