From the 17 – 21 April Bush Radio conducted an “Introduction to oral histories audio and video production course” for the Mitchells Plain Community Advice and Development Project (MPCADP).
Participants were taken through intensive sessions of research, planning, interviewing and technical skills.
We also organised guest speakers who could share more with participants on their focus area, specifically the history and experiences of activists from Mitchells Plain
One of the guests that we invited to speak during the training was Anwa Dramat. Dramat was political prisoner on Robben Island because of his involvement with the African National Congress (ANC) via the United Democratic Front (UDF). He was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for activities against the apartheid regime along with several other young people in September 1988
Over the next few months Bush Radio members will continue to assist the MPCADP to secure the oral histories of those who were part of the struggle for liberation in Mitchells Plain.
Once ready, this oral history project will be shared virtually though our various platforms and housed at the Rocklands Civic Centre in Mitchells Plain (date to be confirmed)
