Who says listening can’t be visual

26/04/2012

For the past few months on Facebook, dedicated Bush Radio Sensual Sundays listener Cassiem Jacobs (better known as Boeta C) has been making promo posters for the show in his spare time. We thought we would showcase some of his work on this blog.

Born and raised in Worcester he matriculated at Esselenpark Senior in Worcester and went to Pentech (now CPUT) to study architectural draughtmanship and later studied Information Technology in Houtbay. He now works at Goudini Spa as the assistant technical manager.

Boeta C listens to Bush Radio 89.5FM via our webstream on his Blackberry and PC.

More voice for your moola – @Bushradio and @Mxit

20/04/2012

In our continuous effort to engage with the communities we serve and make that interaction as easy – and cost effective- as possible, Bush Radio, Africa’s pioneering community radio station project, and Mxit, Africa’s largest mobile social network, have joined forces to provide listeners with a way to send messages to the station at 2 moola (that’s two cents!) per message.

According to Bush Radio Programme Integrator Adrian Louw: “Giving listeners another platform to interact with the station serves to fulfill our license conditions by making it easier for our audience to air their views and opinions.”

The new service combines Mxit‘s over 50 million registered users, and about 40 000 new registrations a day, and Bush Radio’s ability to be heard not only in Cape Town on 89.5FM, but nationally and internationally on mobile phones via its online stream.

Mxit Spokesperson Sphiwe T. Mahlangu says; “We are very happy to provide this solution to Bush Radio for all listeners of Bush Radio that are already on Mxit and the Mxit community that will have the opportunity engage with Bush Radio on this application.”

The station is confident that it will take radio to a new level of interaction and continue to be the leading community radio station on the continent.

Listeners who currently use Mxit will now be able to add Bush Radio on Mxit by going to Tradepost > Entertainment > Radio > Bush Radio.

You will then be able to find Bush Radio under Apps and send us a message whenever you like.

Get involved and join the conversation!

To download Mxit, go to m.mxit.com on your cellphone and follow the prompts.

Heading down the rabbit hole – @Mxit #rabbithole2012

03/04/2012

On Sunday the 1st April 2012, Bush Radio broadcast from the Mxit 2.0 party at the Brenaissance Estate in Devon Valley.

The 9 hour broadcast highlighted the work of Mxit and specifically how communities can use the platform to engage and solve social challenges, but besides all the serious things the “Alice in Wonderland” themed event had gaming, fantastic bands, good food and exciting announcements.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

One of these announcements was the appointment of Marlon Parker of RLabs – Reconstructed Living Lab (RLabs participated in MKK2010) to head up Mxit Reach.

Soon after World of Avatar founder, Alan Knott-Craig made the announcement from the main stage, Marlon was on-air with Dr Victor Davids giving listeners insight into how Mxit could be used to address social issues. (LISTEN TO THE INTERVIEW – Click here)

The broadcast also saw the official launch of the of the Bushradio-Mxit portal which enables listeners to send messages directly to the station via Mxit at only 2 cents per message.

Add the Bush Radio portal on Mxit as a contact  “bush radio”  and “Join the conversation”  – after doing this Bushradio will be under APPS and then you can send us your messages

While the broadcast was happening the Breakfast Rush’s Sive Msolo took the opportunity to attempt fire-walking (see video)
